Incentive for commercial use of vacant property in Clonmel

Having regard to the current economic climate and the increasing number of vacant ground floor commercial units in the central Retail Area of Clonmel and the need to ensure adequate services to cater for the resident population of Clonmel, the wider hinterland served by the commercial centre of Clonmel and the visitors to the Primary town of Clonmel, Clonmel Borough Council is offering an incentive scheme for the reuse and refurbishment of vacant ground floor units for certain commercial purposes on sites within Clonmel’s Prime Retail Area over a three year period to assist new commercial business to set up and establish their venture.

Aims of the Scheme
There are a number of aims of the scheme and these are briefly set out
below;

• To reduce the number of ground floor vacant properties in Clonmel’s Prime Retail Area.
• To improve the commercial offer and diversity in the Primary town of Clonmel.
• To encourage the provision of commercial ventures in the heart of the town.
• To assist in job creation and ongoing employment
• To increase the rates collection for Clonmel Borough Council that would not otherwise be collected in order to maintain local services.
